Message from the President

quoteQuinn Specialty Products began in Orlando, Florida at the hands of John Quinn, Sr., my father. He rented a small storage facility where he began to perfect his skills in producing tea and lemonade. At that time, my brother John worked with him to help build the business. After we moved to North Carolina my father’s business continued to grow, but slowly. Around the same time, my family and I had experienced some great tragedies and that left me needing somewhere to turn. So, I went to work with my father for $200 a week.

When I first started in this business I had no goals in mind other than to continue to support my family. Often times, young adults do not realize that we must strive to reach long term goals, because these are the things that will sustain you. We often adopt the cliché, “You can’t see the forest, for the trees.” And that’s exactly what I had done, until one day I realized that this business is not just a job, it’s a career. It was something that was sustainable in the long run, something that required training and expertise, and something that was well worth the time and effort. So, that very day my goals exceeded all those that I had set before, my goal became to be an African-American executive at an early age.

I began to actively research my craft, constantly looking for more information that would help this business grow and hone my entrepreneurial skills. Every day I asked my father hundreds of questions both loaded and minute. But he was patient, he would sit down and address every question step-by-step giving me the blueprint, and from there I would practice. Practice until I got everything right. I wanted to become a young African-American executive and I did exactly that by the age of 32.

Now I have new goals, new aspirations to change and develop the food industry. As consumers, often times we are just given a product, simply so a business can make money. The product may not be the best quality, it may not be healthy, but because customers will buy it, the product was sold. The best advice my father gave me in this business was “Bryan, if you are going to make something for other people, make sure it is something you would give to your own family.” And that’s what we at Quinn Specialty Products strive to do. We want our food to remind you of being at home, in your grandmother’s kitchen. These days food is over-sweetened and over-salted, but it’s your grandmother who uses just the right amount of everything. It’s the taste you fall in love with.

I want to inspire more African-Americans to become a part of this sector. I want to help them believe that there is “a forest” beyond all of “the trees,” and I want to provide scholarships to young men and women who have overcome hardship and tragedy just as I have, but who still have not lost the drive to succeed in life. quote
